Reading List for Expectant Moms & Nannies
By: Greta Schraer
Well, I have a little bomb to drop on you…a baby bomb. That is right, I am pregnant – 19 weeks today in fact. Doug and I are very excited to welcome Baby Schraer sometime mid September. While pregnancy, mourning sickness, body changes and the like are all new to me – babies are not. Being a nanny has totally prepared me for this next stage in our life. Doug? not so much. The other day he was telling me a story…he says, “I walked really early… I was like 2!” I couldn’t help but laugh really hard, to which he responded…. “well at least before I was 3!” While he is fabulous with older kids that he can throw around, he has some to learn about babies. (By the way, I have no doubts that he is going to be a great father. He is painting the nursery the color “lemon mint” as I type this. He is good to me!)
I have found myself re-reading old books, now relating to them with what I want to do, rather than how do I compromise this with a family I am working with. I have to admit that I am so excited about all the lessons I have previously learned and things I want to try. I feel that nannies can prepare just as expectant moms do. We are to be a family support and can offer experience along side tested wisdom. While we all may have different ways we approach schedule, discipline and our jobs in general, I am sure that we can agree with Schoolhouse Rock, “Knowledge is Power!”
A few weeks ago on Facebook, I asked a question that got some great responses…
“I am writing an article on must reads with a baby on the way. What do you recommend?”
I want to share what moms and nannies from all across America recommended reading. I am reading several of these right now, I’ve already finished a couple and have 4 more on the way from Amazon. I look forward to sharing some more feedback in the future. Here is the collaborative list:
