I love going to the movies. Almost every Saturday my friend and I go to the AMC movie theater before noon. Why before noon on Saturdays you ask? Because at AMC theaters they have $6 movies before noon on the weekends, I think it includes Fridays too. I love being able to go to the movies early, despite having to get up early on a Saturday, and being done with the movie by noon and having my entire day still available.
I have the Stubs card program, this program used to be free before 2011. Last year they revamped the program and implemented a $12 charge yearly. I happened to get converted for free for my first year, but let me tell you I am hooked and will purchase it again for 2012. This is why I love the Stubs program:
- for every $100 spent you receive a $10 credit to use on whatever you wish
- free upgrades to the next size of any drink or popcorn purchase
Another fun feature at AMC I found out about last year was the AMC Best Picture Showcase for the 2011 Oscar Nominees. It is coming back in February 2012 for the 2012 Oscar Nominees. They will announce the line up around January 27, 2012. I went this past February to my first one and it was so much fun! I think the price was around $40 for 5 movies. I was even able to save more money by using a Fandango ticket voucher I had gotten on Groupon earlier. When we showed up for the movies we were greeted with some goodies; a lanyard with a schedule of the movies that day and all of the nominees on it. We also received a $10 AMC Gift Card and a ticket for a free movie. Right there we received back $16 of our ticket price-not bad. The 5 movies that were playing that day were Toy Story 3, The Kids Are Alright, 127 Hours, True Grit and The Fighter. I really didn’t have a desire to see True Grit and 127 Hours and ended up loving them! The Kids are Alright was a disappointment to me, but hey it was OK, because I was having a great time and doing something different.
This year I am doing something a bit different to save money on going to the movies at AMC. I am going to be purchasing a AMC gift card that I can hopefully find at a discount for the price of 12 movies which is what I in theory will be seeing in 6 months. I will add an extra $20 for popcorn and drink purchase even though I am hoping to just use my water bottle and fill up there.
How do you save money at the movies? Do you belong to any movie reward programs?

Those were amazing suggestions. As a movie folk, I always looking for budgeted movies. You can all movies in theates for free on Movies apps. You can also download movies on these apps.
