As nannies, many of us will be spending the holiday away from family and friends from home. With 23 years of Nannying under my belt, I’ve had to spend many holidays away from my family in the mid-west. There are ways to enjoy the holiday and bring the spirit of Thanksgiving to others.
- Gather other singles around you and host a dinner for ‘orphans’ of Thanksgiving. Each person can bring a favorite dish or a dish from their heritage. Throw in a movie or games, and they’ll eagerly be planning next year’s event!
- Do something special for yourself, such as a movie in a theater or cook your favorite meal. It doesn’t have to be turkey! Make an at-home spa – candles, bubbles, glass of wine and relax!
- Volunteer at a local shelter, food pantry or church.
- Have an at-home movie marathon. Rent a bunch of movies you’ve wanted to see, but never have the time for.
- Catch up on projects around the house, or get a jump start on Holiday shopping. I plan on getting my holiday cards done!
