Have you worked in a home that has “green” products or at least you think they are green. Beth Bittenbender of Pure Strategies . As nannies we often have to research the newest cleaning agents and practices out there to ensure that our work homes and children are the safest they can be. Beth talks with some nannies and agency owners on ways to do so.
“Many nannies work in households that are going green. It’s important to keep educating ourselves on all of the new information coming out in the ever changing field of childcare.” says Leah Corum, Co-President of ADCAN (Association of DC Area Nannies), the longest running nanny support group in the U.S. Beyond all of their other duties, nannies are often the ones who are responsible to clean the things babies come into contact with most often – toys, cribs, high chairs, etc – often several times a day.
At the same time, Nikki Gribble, 2012 INA Nanny of the Year, reminded me that it’s got to be simple. “Nannies have to know so much about so many things, it can be overwhelming. Green concepts often involve changing so many things, and it can be hard to keep up with. If it isn’t simple, chances are it won’t happen”.
