Kids are out of school for the summer and have ample time for out-of-the-ordinary recreational and educational activities. It is a time for them to delve into new subjects, try new things and have fun. Try some of the following toys, activities and books for some summer fun:
Schwinn Tricycle
The sunny weather provides the perfect setting for outdoor recreation and exercise. Get your little tike out on a tricycle, like the Schwinn Easy Steer Tricycle, so you can both enjoy the fresh air. This particular model gives you more control over the tricycle, with the parent steering handle in back. The design includes a front and rear basket that enables you to bring toys and snacks along on your ride, and it is colored an eye-catching red, white and black. With this toy, you both can get some exercise and spend an afternoon together.
Aviva Sports Iceberg
The perfect addition to your waterside summer home is an inflatable Aviva Sports Iceberg water toy. The contraption is fantastic for an aerobic climb up and then an exhilarating slide into the refreshing water. The 14-foot toy makes it feel like you have your very own water park in your backyard. It is made of durable PVC material and has a 5-year warranty for non-commercial home use. Especially if you live in a warm area like the Southwest, this toy can help you and your little ones beat the summer heat.
Jurassic World Legos
Find solace in the air conditioned indoors, while the little one plays with the new Jurrasic World Lego set. This set engages and delights dinosaur lovers of all ages with its Indominus rex Breakout theme, which includes the impound lab, feeding crane, helicopter and gyrosphere. Then, go further into the Jurassic World theme with the related Lego video game. The most notable part of the game is that it allows players to play as any one of the 20 different types of dinosaurs.
“Matilda the Musical“
There are a number of wonderful, kid-friendly plays on Broadway this summer. For example, “Matilda the Musical” — based off the beloved Roald Dahl book — is a show kids of all ages will enjoy. The story is about a girl from a neglectful family who finds solace at school, in books and within herself. The story has a tone of magical realism and provides viewers with whimsical fun. The Chicago Tribune has dubbed this Tony-nominated play as “the best family musical in years.”
“Middle School: Just My Rotten Luck”
If your kid is making the transition from grade school to middle school, help him or her prepare with James Patterson’s relatable book, “Middle School: Just My Rotten Luck.” The novel displays the protagonist’s school as less-than-ideal, where he runs into a number of awkward and sticky situations. Patterson’s hilarious storyline relays to kids that it is possible to survive and thrive in any school environment, even if you do encounter a few blunders. The book is recommended for ages 8 through 12.
