Do you go out with friends a lot for dinner or lunch? Is there someone who comes up short with cash or forgets their wallet? I recently discovered an awesome solution to being paid back from those who owe you money. All you need is a cell phone and computer and you will have money in your “wallet” within seconds!
I was recently introduced to Venmo from my brother who owed me some money for something he purchased from me. The tag line for Venmo is “It is like your phone and wallet had a beautiful baby!”
Venmo is a great FREE service for friends and family to pay each other monies owed either due to dining out, concerts, tickets, rent, payments on loans, or just plain gift money.
You may be asking yourself “How secure is sending money via a text message?” Venmo covers this in their security statement. Here is a little snippet of their security statement.
All financial information is encrypted, stored and protected on our secure servers. Any data transmitted from one account holder to another and over the website, including all login credentials, are sent over a 256-bit Secure Socket Layer (SSL), verified by VeriSign in order to prevent any third party interception. The https and green bar visible in all URLs once you’re logged into your account is evidence that any data transmitted is encrypted. Venmo will never reveal any financial information to a receiver of funds you transmit.
This is a great solution for friends who go out dinner or somewhere else and someone comes up short on cash. With the upcoming INA Annual Conference it is also awesome for you to pay for your share of your room to someone else.
What I also like about Venmo is that it is free to send and receive money. With other services like Paypal there are fees incurred when you pay with a credit card etc to another person. The money comes from your credit card or debit card that is linked to your account. It is then transferred to their bank account. For more information on this procedure you can read about in the FAQ section,
So what do you think about this awesome way to send money to someone right there before you say your goodbyes?
