A Tuesday Tip from Nanny & House Manager Karen Yatsko
I am a nanny in a household with two very busy children. Olivia who is 13, and JD who is 10 ½. My tidbit for you today is to explain how we keep up with their busy schedules. When I first came to this family four ½ years ago, they did not have a family calendar. Now we have a large family calendar that sits on the kitchen counter with everything on it, including the parents’ schedules. We all know that this is the “go to” spot before making play dates or scheduling appointments.
Our Family calendar keeps everyone on track and knowing what the week and month brings.
In addition, each child has a three ring binder with their names brightly labeled on the front. Each binder has tabs which list their school activities and information, and the school phones lists. The school calendar is the first thing in the binder. (important dates are also transferred to the house calendar).
The following tabs in the binder correspond to the sports the children participate in. Each section has a phone list of the team members , phone and address of the coach, leaque and payment info . Any updates and changes to the sports calenders are also placed in here and noted on the house calendar.
Other extra curricular activities follow – synagogue schedule, Hebrew school, and music lessons. Again, contact information is quickly available for everyone. This system works for our busy family. Hope it gave you some ideas for your family too!!
