Communicating With Teens on Tough Topics
Teens and tweens are faced with lots of choices these days. Peer pressure, drinking, drugs and sex are all topics that must be discussed but how? And how as a nanny can you support both the teens and the parents? Come and discuss how to support kids through these tough times and how to communicate effectively as they make these choices. Monica’s role as a nanny and as a former social services professional makes her the perfect person to help you help your older kids.
Monica Harrietha started caring for children at the age of 12 and began nannying when she was 16 until the age of 26 and had experienced both the live-in and live-out nanny positions along the way working with various families and children from infancy to preteen. She then pursued a career in Social Services. She began volunteering as a peer support counsellor/grant researcher at a Christian pregnancy care centre. She was also employed at a group home and a shelter for street youth, as a support counsellor for high risk teens under the care of Children’s Aid Society. Eventually, Monica decided to branch out further in my profession where she worked for a company running a home as a Live-in Child and Youth Worker/Foster parent to high risk teens. During this time she lived and worked for 2 1/2 years with up to 4 teens in the home at one time.
After 5 years of working extensively within this field, in 2010, Monica decided to return to her old profession of being a professional Nanny which she continues to date. Monica has created a site called Nanny Innovator on facebook where she researches various websites of interest to provide free assistance, resources, education, and tools to nannies, caregivers, parents, teachers and those within her profession of Social Services. Monica lives in Toronto, Canada.

Fun and Healthy Foods for Infants and Toddlers
Babies arrive in such a pure and natural form, requiring only breast milk. When they are ready for “solids”, we introduce pure and natural foods, one at a time. But, “graduating” from pureed foods does not mean that processed foods are the next step. Babies and toddlers can be taught to like natural foods like fruits and veggies and even zucchini! A nanny plays an important role in teaching children how to eat right and sets the stage for lifelong eating habits. Come and learn about food from “Thee Baby Lady” and discover fun and new approaches for ages 0-4 years old.
Christy Waterhouse, Thee Baby Lady is a “Baby Professional” with over 30 years experience with newborns, infants, and toddlers. She is a certified postpartum doula, a certified newborn massage instructor, and a children’s book author. She has an online community on Facebook covering topics ranging from pregnancy, infants and toddler years. Christy has a long record of success getting “little eaters” to try new foods that are healthy. Veggies and fruits are her passion! With the knowledge she has gained of what “works”, she developed her own curriculum and teaches group and private classes to parents and their infants and toddlers. She is sought after for private consultations in planning baby’s first foods and also troubleshooting and customizing dietary plans through the toddler years. Christy published her first children’s book in July 2011, titled “Z is for Zucchini: a Baby Foods Memory Book”, where the child gets to be the star of the book! This precious “journal” documents the photos taken of the child enjoying vegetables and fruits, providing a powerful teaching tool. One of the repeated quotes declared by moms, local and nationwide, “Christy got my kids to eat things I could never get them to eat.”
Taking Advantage of New Opportunities In The Job Market

This session will:
· explore the new trend of blended positions
· help you decide if it’s the right career move for you
· detail what you can expect in responsibilities, salary, benefits and challenges
· give you insider tips on successfully navigating this unique job market
· connect you to the resources you need to make the transition from nanny to your new blended position
