Spring Break has happened in some schools and others are still waiting patiently for Spring Break to come. Often times nannies get time off during spring breaks, during the winter holidays and summer vacations. Throughout my 16 years as a professional nanny, I hear at least 3 nannies not getting paid for the work week because their nanny family has gone on vacation and not taken them. Some families just don’t get that they still need to pay their nanny even if she is not working.
Just recently I was reading the 4NannyTaxes blog on this very subject. I hope the article helps you and your family define vacation pay and vacation time.
Will my employers pay me during their vacation?
Most nannies and their employers have a very informal work relationship, without any formal written agreement. The work and pay related details that most employers take for granted – Paid Time Off (sick/vacation/personal) and vacation scheduling – are gray clouds over the nanny’s head. Many wonder, and are afraid to ask, will I be paid?
Most nanny employers have established rules in their workplace – paid holidays, a paid vacation policy, and colleagues to share the work load when one is absent. Nannies often have none of these things formalized…….

Alice and Co., great conversation starter. I came across the link below yesterday and was amazed that the MB was actually considering only giving her nanny a “few hours off” of the day she asked for at least 3 weeks in advance because she (MB) would be inconvenienced!

Your written work agreement is the best thing between you and a disagreement with your nannying family over SOMETHING. Get it is writing before you start.
