Kellie Geres, Regarding Nannies Development Team Member
So a while ago, I did an article on Training Programs available to nannies.
Since then, I have become aware of so many more, that I felt the need to expand on this information.
Right now, almost 30 cities across the US and Canada are preparing for National Nanny Training Day 2012. Organizers are preparing events full of educational opportunities for nannies and caregivers as well as professional development and networking opportunities. I hope many of you take advantage of an event in your area.
Webinars are being offered almost on a monthly basis if not more, through Nanny Biz Reviews and Nannypalooza.com. Also, many agencies and services are offering webinars and podcasts to nannies and clients as a way to reach their audiences.
Also, three major conferences are being planned for this year for our industry.
May 3-6 the International Nanny Association is hosting their conference in Las Vegas.
September 28-30, DEMA (Domestic Estate Managers Association) will hold their first convention in Las Angeles.
And Nannypalooza is back! October 13 & 14 in its hometown of Philadelphia!
Some additional training you may not be aware of includes:
The Charles MacPherson Academy for Butlers & Household Managers
Starkey International Institute for Household Management
International Maternity Institute – includes baby planner, greenproofer, greenbirth educator, certified sleep consultant, maternity product pro, maternity stress coach, and child safety instructor.
So what does all this training mean? It means opportunities for you to learn new and exciting techniques in our field, meet industry professionals, network with peers and industry professionals you may not have access to in your daily environment, and be up to date on all the news, reviews and information from our industry experts. I have been attending workshops, nanny days, conferences, college courses, nanny support group meetings and more in my 23 years in this field, and I always learn something new at each event I attend. You can never have too much information when it comes to your career. All this information and training, also helps when seeking a new position. Gather all your credentials to share, scan those conference certificates into your portfolio and register for one or more of the events listed above.
Do you have a favorite training you’ve attended? Have a bit of info you learned at conference? Share you thoughts with us on why training is important or how a training has helped you in your career.
