Saturday May 18, 2013 is Safe Kids Day across the world. Did you know that preventable injuries in kids is the #1 killer of children? Over 1 million children die yearly from preventable injuries. This is one of the reasons why Safe Kids day was founded. To bring awareness to preventable injuries in children. Safe Kids Day was started to bring awareness to these preventable injuries around the world/ This is done by hosting coalitions and programs bringing education to families and children across the world. Funds are raised by the Safe Kids Day on May 18, 2013 for these programs.
To see if there is a program or coalition in your area please visit: Find a Safe Kids Coalition You can even host a “Lookout Cookout” which is this year’s theme.
The theme for Safe Kids Day’s signature event is “Lookout Cookout – when we look out for each other, there’s no limit to how far we can see.” We love this theme – it speaks to Safe Kids’ commitment to engage the entire community to protect children, and everyone loves a cookout! Best of all, it’s something that anyone can host!
Did you know there are seven lesser known preventable injuries? Safe Kids has put together a great flyer to share information on them. Feel free to download it and share with your families and friends.
