How long have you been a nanny, or how long were you a nanny? I am actually new to the nanny crowd, I have only been doing it for about 2 years. I previously worked at an office and at dog daycares so this was a definite change but for the better. I have learned so much in the process and have met some amazing people.
What is a highlight of your nanny career? Getting to work with a family that loves to laugh, I never expected to laugh so much at my job.
How did you come up with the idea for your product/ service? My Mother-in-law and I wanted to start a business that was dog related because we love dogs. It was many months of us bouncing ideas around and I finally created our logo which is of her Beagle Benny and my German Shepherd Kaylee. Kaylee was diagnosed with Lymphoma earlier this year and after my first nanny job was over I decided to get back into what I went to college for which was graphic design. I started teaching myself how to make decals and that’s when my new nanny family sent a request to interview me. The schedule was so accommodating with chemo and the hours allow me to be at home with Kaylee a lot and work on the business at the same time so it was perfect.
When I looked online for nanny decals I saw that the selection was very limited. I asked the lovely ladies on Nanny Care Tribe their opinions on what nanny decals they would like to see and now we’re here! Almost 1,500 views on our shop and we just had our 50th sale. I have another Etsy account that had maybe 30 views in the past 4 years and we get about that many per day now.
But I love decals and I love the fact that I can hop on Nanny Care Tribe and ask for opinions from the source. If these nannies don’t want to buy them, then what nanny would?
What is your level of monetary investment and have you seen a profit? We’ve made back about 75% of what we have put in but a lot of time has gone into making the business from scratch. Etsy listings are the most tedious things you will ever do but take the time to really fill out the description and sell your product. We like to put fun lines in our listings because we want to connect to our customers on another level and show a personality with our shop.
“…with her trusty umbrella and a magical purse every girl wishes she had!“
What is the purpose of your product/service? To take advantage of the skills we have and provide a wide range of products influenced by the things we are passionate about. From decals to dog products, we’re only 2 months in and have a lot more to bring to our shop.
How has the nanny industry received your product/service – i.e. what has been the feedback you’ve received? It’s been so amazing. When the girls post pictures of their nanny decals on their cars, it makes me so happy. They have truly given me the confidence I needed to do all of this.
What words of wisdom do you have for others, who may have a product/service and wish to expand its market? Be accommodating whenever you can be. I had some pretty big orders offered to me, one being a car decal for a parenting advisor who was starting her own business. I had no idea what I was getting myself into but I took on the challenge and it turned out amazing.
What do you wish you had known early on, that you’ve learned going through this process? Wish we would have started sooner!
This is so wonderful. I’m sure career nannies love the product, (super cute! I need!) But also she has mastered the craft and she is a real nanny! (Takes one to know one!)
