The Sunday before Martin Luther King Day my 5 yr old charge asked me as I was tucking him into bed if he was going to school the following day. I told him no because it was a holiday. I explained who Martin Luther king was…..that he lived a long time ago, he was a smart , brave, very important man and that many people came to hear him speak. He then asked me what he looked like so I quickly pulled up a photo of Dr. King on my phone and showed him. He looked at the photo then said “I know him.” I replied “Really?” He then told me that he had seen that man on TV and that he wished he could have met him. I smiled and was so happy that I was the first person to introduce him to Martin Luther King. 🙂
Lord’s legacy included impacts on the Black Consciousness Movement and Civil Rights Movement in South Africa.King’s work was refered to by and served as a motivation for South African pioneer Albert Lutuli, another dark Nobel Peace prize champ who battled for racial equity in his nation.
