Greta Schraer of Cincynanny.com interviewed the Regarding Nannies Team members to give you an in depth look at who they are.
First up is Glenda Propst:
When you aren’t Nannying or writing for Regarding Nannies, how do you spend your time? First and foremost, I enjoy spending time with my my husband. I could not ask for anyone who is more supportive of my volunteer work. He is my best friend, he is fun to be with and no one can make me laugh the way he does.
Beyond that: I love to be creative. I have a Cricut machine ( a personal cutter that cuts shapes) I enjoy planning parties, creating party favors ,and I am also an avid collector of Jim Shore’s artwork.
I have a group of about 15 friends (including my sister) that I go to lunch with once a month, and once a month I go to lunch with my sister in laws, that is always entertaining and enlightening . I am fortunate I live close to family. My mom is always up for an adventure and we have a great time together.
1.How have your relationships with children changed you as a person?
Being a part of a child’s life on a daily a basis from infancy into their teen age years makes me appreciate the moments that fly by all too quickly. I try to love and respect the children in my life for who they are as individuals and be there to listen to them when they need me. These children I have had the privilege of caring for, have taught me as much as I have taught them. I thank God every day that he led me to this amazing profession. Words can not describe the impact that the families I have worked with have had on me.
2.What do you hope to be remembered for by your charges and those close to you?
I want to be remembered by my charges as someone who loved them unconditionally, and someone who made a difference in their life. I want to be remembered by my family and friends as someone they could always count on for love and support.I want to be remembered by the nanny profession as a pioneer of this industry. First and foremost I want to be remembered for being an advocate of quality child care and for making a difference in the world of nannies.
3.Since starting Regarding Nannies, how have you been affected or influenced?
One of bonuses that came from working with Kellie and Alice in developing Regarding Nannies, is the bond we built. Working together on something we are so passionate about has allowed the 3 of us to give back to the profession that we love in a way we couldn’t do alone. Each of us have different strengths and weaknesses and we ebb and flow together to fill in the gaps.I have tremendous respect for Alice and Kellie and I am always learning from them.
Seeing our vision develop together has rejuvenated me both personally and professionally.
4.What are you excited about this coming year?
On a personal note: I am excited about the lake house that my husband and I are building down in Southern Missouri. We have both worked hard and we are ready to have a place to go where we can enjoy the beauty of God’s creation and a slower pace of life. Sometimes life truly is about the simple things. This year for the first time, my husbands work schedule has slowed down. My hours changed so that I don’t have to go in as early and we have coffee together in the morning. We sit on the porch with the cats and watch the birds and squirrels and just talk. It is the the best part of my day.
Professionally: I am excited to see the direction that Regarding Nannies is going, it is so fulfilling to have so much support from the nanny community at large, and we have something else coming down the pike soon that will add one more element to our blog that we are very excited about. I am excited that there are still so many facets of the nanny industry that we haven’t even begun to explore… and with this team of women the possiblities are endless !
Thanks Glenda!
