I realize that today is Creative Nanny Wednesday but we needed more space to share our wonderful stories about the Nanny Sisterhood, so once you read this post, scroll to the bottom and I did include a Creative Nanny Wednesday.
As we celebrate NNRW this week, I asked nannies to share with us stories of how they were touched by the sense of community and the strong bond that nannies develop with other nannies around the country forming what Donna Robinson named “The Sisterhood of the Nanny”
I had 6 responses. Three of them were short and sweet. Three of them were long and detailed. This will kick off another series for our blog where I will be sharing with you on an ongoing basis, stories of nannies supporting their own.
There are 3 short ones today and one long one. Trust me, you don’t want to miss any of them.
If you have a story about how another nanny supported you when you were going through a difficult time, send it to us at RegardingNannies(at)gmail(dot)com ATT: Glenda
The first story is from Nanny Anne Marie.
I have lots of great experiences about nannies supporting me. I will share with you my most recent experience: I was interviewing with a family for a job. I knew in my heart it wasn’t right for me. I posted to my friends on the NANMembers list and so many nannies responded and helped me out with great advice. They re affirmed for me what I already knew in my heart.
One Nanny (Mallette) even call me on the phone to offer her support. We talked for a long time and she made me feel much better.
When I needed prayer for when I was sick or for a family member who was sick I always got feedback that they my friends are praying for me. This is very important to me.
Once when I had a very personal issue I turned to a nanny that knew I could talk to and trust to keep my confidence. She helped me out in a very awkward situation just by offering great advice. She knows who she is.
When I was frustrated in my job search, Nanny Gael Ann gave me a list of agencies to call in my area so that I would have more options available to me.
The NANMembers group is my life line. I feel I can always post no matter how big or small a problem may be. They are always there for support when needed. They are not just my online nanny friends, they are extended family and mentors. I am so lucky to have these special people in my life. I am proud to be a Nanny.
Nanny Brandi shares this:
Recently my job ended unexpectedly and I had only a few weeks to put together a resume and begin applying to agencies. Trying to cope with the roller coaster of emotions and move forward was very overwhelming. I made an effort to contact some nannies I met and made friends with at the INA conference and let them know I was having a hard time dealing with the situation. Their experience imparted a wealth of ideas and information that helped to build my confidence and motivate me. Being able to reach out to my long distance nanny friends and receive their understanding and support has given me a positive attitude in my journey to find my next “right fit” family. I am so grateful to all of my nanny friends that have helped me. We truly have an amazing nanny community.
An anonymous nanny shared this:
I try to reach out to nannies who are in unique situations and support them by sharing my own experience and what has worked for me.
I met a nanny on one of the Nanny Message Boards that was working for a widower. Since I had temped for a widower whose wife died of the same type of cancer, I tried to give her advice on how to help the children through those upcoming days such as the anniversary of her death. I refer to that as Heaven Day. Through sharing my story, I discovered that it also helped some of the other nannies posting on the board.
I also made connections with another nanny on that board who thought of me as a sort of mentor and she would email me often about things that were too specific or private to post on a public board.
I also wrote about how when you were a nanny in a job where the mother had passed away it was so exhausting physically, mentally and emotionally and lots of nannies had been in similar situations, so it was helpful to them.
Finally, I want to share Tara’s story with you. We have featured alot of stories about Tara on our blog, today we are sharing with you the story that Tara shared on her personal blog for NNRW.
Nannies Need other Nannies
Tomorrow we will continue this series with an amazing story of how one nanny found support in a strange city in the middle of a hurricane.
And since today is actually Creative Nanny Wednesday: Here is a link to a great Fall Craft which could also be used as a Rosh Hashana decoration.
September 28th at Sundown the Jewish High Holiday of Rosh Hashana will begin.
The Creative Jewish Mom created this apple garland as a decoration for the back of the chairs at the table.
Even if you don’t celebrate Rosh Hashana, you could create this apple garland as a Fall decoration.
Click this link to go to Creative Jewish Mom’s blog to get the details.
