Tell us a little bit about how you got into this business? Started out when I had my first child and needed help, realized the need for qualified personnel and started an Agency in 1988.
What is the number one mistake nannies make when interviewing? Nannies often ask the wrong questions during the first interview and provide too much personal information that can disqualify them.
What advice would you give to someone considering opening a nanny placement service? Provide a lot of support to the nanny through in-house training and form a large pool of qualified candidates.
What changes would you like to see in the nanny industry? I would like the employers to appreciate the value of a nanny by offering better wages and benefits. I also want to see all nannies strive to become professionals in every way.
What is the most important piece of advice you can share with our readers? Never stop learning everything there is to know about your profession.
What was your first job? Administrative Assistant to the President of a Large Hospital Corporation
When you aren’t working, what do you enjoy? Being with my family, swimming, yoga, pilates, movies and writing.
How do you give back in your community? I do training seminars for domestic workers through non-profit organizations. My workshops locally are designed to help nannies and housekeepers improve their skills so that they may earn better wages.
After you retire, what would you like to be doing? – I don’t believe I will ever retire.
Tell us a fun fact about you. When I came to this country from Spain, my mother worked 6 days a week and left me a long list at age 7 of chores I needed to do around the house…it is no wonder that I wrote “The Professional Housekeeper” and got into this field.
What’s your favorite book that you’ve ever read? My source of reading pleasure are books by motivational and spiritual writers: Eckhart Tolle – The Power of Now
Where would you take your dream vacation? a cruise on the Seaborn to the South of Italy and France
