Our friends over at CareAcademy share a great article this past fall on Kids, Sports and Caregivers. It may seem a bit slly as most of the United States is in a freezing state of temperatures, but many places are already having spring sport sign ups. Sometimes nannies get caught in the middle of figuring out what sport to choose or they are the ones who take the kids to all the practices etc. Do you help the families and kids decide what sports to participate in?
In my time as a high school coach, year in and year out, I saw student athletes learn lessons about motivation and time management. The majority of sports’ players kept their participation in perspective, using life skills they attained through sports. I watched many kids develop their motivation toward life-long learning and positive social behaviors.
Time management for students is so important to school success, and there is really no other arena that teaches this skill the same way as playing a sport. I often worried about my athletes when they did not participate in a sport. I knew it might be a time when they may lose motivation, grades may drop, and they can fall into bad habits.
