As we are in a new year, I wanted to remind everyone that as a nanny and childcare provider you are a mandated reporter for child abuse or suspicions. A few years ago Myrna Alphonse (now Myrna Alphonse Newman) wrote a three part article for us on being a mandated reporter. I wanted to share it with our readers again as it is such an important topic and sometimes we need to be reminded of the resources available to us, the children in our care and the families we work with.
In her article from August 2009, Myrna reminds us: “While it is not our job as nannies to dictate “good parenting” choices, it is our responsibility to report cases of abuse or neglect while children under the age of 18 are under our care. ”
